The standard medical approach to scoliosis treatment hasn’t changed in a hundred years. When your curvature is less than 25 degrees they tell you to wait around and see if it gets worse. If it gets worse they tell you that they would like you to wear a scoliosis brace for 20 hours a day. If and when scoliosis bracing fails to stop it and it gets really bad they say you need to have scoliosis surgery or you will have severe problems. The entire system is based on fear mongering and poor outcomes. Patients with scoliosis are unhappy with the medical status quo and are looking for someone to step up with a better scoliosis treatment option.  Even with this discontent the medical field continues to try and build a better brace or develop a better surgical procedure that yields a better correction. People don’t want a better brace because nobody wants to wear a brace. Scoliosis braces restrict movement, significantly reduce breathing capacity, and look ridiculous “give me a break”. Scoliosis surgery is technically the most invasive orthopedic surgery on the planet, permanently fuses your spine which is supposed to bend, has a long and painful recovery, and has very poor long term follow up satisfaction. So it seems that the so called experts are barking up the wrong tree.

The single most important scoliosis treatment tip is to avoid the status quo and to look outside the box. Scoliosis treatment has come a long way if you know where to look for the answers. The current scoliosis research studies indicate that the condition is mainly neurological and involves a dysfunction in communication between the gravity righting centers and muscle stabilization. As your body grows the problems worsen because the head and pelvis tend to separate further apart from the central gravity line which in turn causes a reflexive coiling of the spine during the stabilization process creating a crooked spine in the shape of an “S”. In cases where the body doesn’t stabilize the curve type is altered to reflect a single curve and the posture deformity is much more noticeable. The reason this information is important is because scoliosis brace treatment uses artificial support to hold the spine straighter but doesn’t teach the brain or muscles anything so when it comes time to check to see if the brace is working and they take an x-ray without the brace on it is often much worse you could argue that bracing may worsen the condition by creating a weaker spine. Most studies that found good results with bracing involve exercises that were performed in addition to bracing.

If you take this information a step further and look at treatment that causes your body’s gravity control centers to learn a different posture and stabilize then and only then will you see a your scoliosis reduce and stay reduced permanently. The neurology based rehabilitation that causes your spine to work harder in gravity by increasing the demand on certain specific spinal regions will allow you r body to adapt in time and in need to the increased demand in turn creating a long lasting natural correction for your scoliosis.
